2. Use the Two-Bucket Method — It's Free
This one costs nothing: use two buckets. One holds soapy water, the other plain rinse water, and the mitt gets dunked and rubbed clean in the rinse bucket before every reload of suds. That simple loop keeps the grit you just lifted off the paint from being rubbed straight back into it. Work top to bottom, saving the filthy lower panels and wheels for last, and rinse the whole car before you ever touch it to knock off loose dirt. 4. Do the Bag Test Before You Polish
Not sure your paint needs decontamination? Do the bag test: after washing, slip your hand into a plastic sandwich bag and glide your fingertips over the paint. If it feels gritty or rough, there's bonded contamination a normal wash won't remove — and no coating or wax will look right sitting on top of it.
